NYC – #CancelKavanaugh at Trump Tower – Walkout and Speakout!

October 4 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm

International Women’s Strike Call to Action

We are survivors, believe us. Stop Brett Kavanaugh.

We have watched with mounting alarm the Senate hearing where Dr. Christine Blasey Ford shared her traumatic account of assault at the hands of Brett Kavanaugh.

These narratives have reminded us of our own assaults and bodily harms and we have found solace in the bravery of the survivors who have spoken up.

But the condescension and disrespect with which Dr. Ford and other survivors have been treated by politicians confirms for us what we have known all along: that the current political process does not care about the welfare of women, indeed tries actively to harm us.

This is thus a key issue for political equality and full freedom for women at a moment when women, youth, union and non-union workers, and Black and immigrant communities are saying  “Enough is enough!” It is a key issue for ALL working people in America, who are daily oppressed, humiliated and dismissed, whose suffering and pain often doesn’t matter, all these millions of working people who can relate to Dr. Ford’s testimony, and have responded with narratives of solidarity.

The International Women’s Strike, along with the International Socialist Organization, Organization for a Free Society, and Red Bloom call for a national day of action on Thursday, October 4 at 5:00 pm to protest the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

On October 4 we call on all women, and those who believe our stories, to walk out of work, school and housework at 4:00 pm and show the world that since our labour runs the world, when we are denied dignity and safety, we can stop the world from running.

Along with demanding the withdrawal of Kavanaugh, we endorse the demands raised by Black Women’s Blueprint and March for Black Women:

  1. Full reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act set to expire on September 30, 2018.
  2. Our political hopefuls focus on intersectional women’s rights concerns like poverty, affordable housing, reproductive rights, immigration protections and center the most vulnerable.
  3. Remove the gag order on advocacy and prevention focused agencies forbidding the use of the words: transgender, fetus, vulnerable, science-based, evidence-based, diversity, and entitlement.
